The Institute of Power Engineers has several Awards. There are National, Branch and Student awards.
Honourable Mention Citation
The Honourable Mention Citation may be awarded to those whom the Committee find worthy of special recognition for a particular service as a Member. Certificates of Honourable Mention will be granted in such number as the Committee may decide, but only one citation will be made to a Member in his or her lifetime. The criteria for this award is very broad. Generally, a recipient should have been a Member for more than one year and have taken part in Branch activities.
The Service Crest may be awarded to a Member holding an Honorable Mention Citation, followed by at least five (5) years of service as a Committee Member or Officer at the Branch, Area, or National level. The five year rule cannot be waived, but the service need not be in consecutive years.
A Branch may make one such nomination in any year, but a Member may only receive one such award in his or her lifetime.
George W. Smith Award
The George W. Smith Award, in the form of a illuminated scroll and pin, is a long service award, commemorating the service of George W. Smith as National from 1955 to 1975. Secretary.
The Award may be awarded to a Member holding an Honorable Mention Citation, followed by at least five (5) years of service as a Committee Member or Officer at the Branch, Area, or National level. The five year rule cannot be waived, but the service need not be in consecutive years.
G. A. Andrew Award
To perpetuate the memory of G. A. Andrews, a Member of distinguished service to the Institute in the field of Education.
A nominee for the G. A. Andrews Award will be a person having a distinguished record of service as a writer or lecturer, in the planning and development of programs, or in the administration of programs in the field of Power Engineering and Training.
A nominee need not of necessity be a member of the Institute of Power Engineers.
W. G. Child Award
To perpetuate the memory of a man who contributed many years of distinguished service towards the successful operation of the Institute of Power Engineers. This is a very important Long Service Award.
Any nominee for the Award shall be qualified by the holder of a Service Crest Award and having served a minimum of an additional seven (7) years of outstanding membership of any classification in the Institute of Power Engineers and, the Branch Awards Chairman will petition the Area Director in writing, 90 days prior to the Annual General Meeting, outlining why this candidate should be considered for the Award. The Area Director will then, from the petition(s) received, submit one candidate’s name to the W. G. Child Memorial Award Nominating Committee (National Officers) for consideration.
C. F. Puttenham Award
To perpetuate the memory Chuck F. Puttenham, a Member who contributed many years of distinguished service to the I.P.E, raising the Institute’s profile by working with others and society in general.
A nominee for the C. F. Puttenham I.P.E. Profile Award will be a Member or a group of Members (Area, Branch, Sub-Branch, or committee) of the I. P.E. which makes a significant contribution to increasing the community awareness or public profile of the Institute. Initiatives may vary, such as volunteer service or donation to community charity, or participation in special projects between the I.P.E and other organizations (e,g, educational courses, Chief Engineers’ meeting, or safety seminars.)
PanGlobal Contributor Award
In 2008, PanGlobal invited the Institute to participate each year in the selection of candidates for a new Contributor's Award, which is awarded at PanGlobal's expense at the annual IPECC meetings. It is a cash award to be used for travel to national meetings or appropriate professional development. As a guideline, up to five awards per year will be awarded.
The award is for Individuals in the Profession, who are contributing to the betterment of learning for the Profession.
- For the general improvement in learning within the profession due to their contributions
- For educators' contributions to the value of learning to their program (i.e. programs succeeding at a high level through student feedback, program size, program growth or success in certification exams)
- For their contributions to the resources available to all educators through PanGlobal's Learning Portal
